Mission of MOMIL

Welcome to the Zhao Group in the School of Public Health at Xiamen University!

The aim of our team is to build optical imaging system, molecular imaging and optogenetics tools that can investigate the complex behavior of hemodynamic changes, biomolecules, and the interface of the microvessel and nervous systems in vivo. The morphological, functional and physiological mechanisms situations of many diseases (e.g., tumor, brain anddigestive tractet al.,) changes in time, space and local microenvironments. Understanding these changes in the context of living tissues may give rise to new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. This may further reveal new molecular mechanisms which is unique in traditional biochemical studies. Our research efforts span both basic science and clinically translatability.

Research Interests

Our group is committed to build optical imaging instrumentation to visualize these complex behaviors in cancer and brain science disease animal models. To elucidate how cells drive developmental mechanisms across all scales, we leverage super-resolution microscopy and chemical synthesis to develop novel cutting-edge imaging and multiomics methods and apply these methods to study the following specific topics: Optical Coherence Tomography, Optical Coherence angiography, Photoacoustic microscopy, Photoacoustic tomography, Laser speckle imaging, Optogenetics and Artificial intelligence et al.
